Treating Hyperpigmentation (Even Melasma) with Dermalogica’s NEW Melano Pro Peel

So I got Dermalogica’s Melano Pro Peel done & here’s what I got to tell you…

Melano Pro Peel is 6 week treatment program with the star ingredient of 10% Azelaic Acid  blended with salicylic acid, tranexamic acid, niacinamide, retinol & acetyl hexapeptide-1 for reduced pigmentation & glowing skin at the end of the 6 weeks.

Melano Pro Peel starts with a peel mask applied in the treatment room that’s designed to be left on the skin for 5-7 hours before removal at home. (Let me warn you to clear out your schedule because you will look like a ghost/snake for the first week). The purpose of the peeling mask is to kickstart the peel process. As opposed to stronger peels like Jessener peels or a 30% AHA peel, Melano Pro’s formula minimizes the inflammatory and heat response that’s felt in traditional peels.

After the initial peeling mask, homecare is concise with a cleanser, the included Melano Pro home products (Dermalogica’s Ultra Calming Mist & Continuous Resurfacing Cream).

Before & After from @dermalogicacanada

The 1st week

This is the week of commitment to the process. Day 2 consisted of a gentle cleanser in the morning & night with my trusty UPF hat to protect from sun exposure. After Day 3, I started the continuous resurfacing cream, mist & 100% mineral SPF. Day 3-6 is when the peeling happens like a snake shedding its old skin. This is a necessary step to get rid of the old epidermal layers, which makes way for your new skin to shine through.

During the first week, my skin was the most sensitive to the touch in the whole process. For my oily dehydrated skin, I also experienced some purging which is normal after any exfoliating treatment.

Day 1 of Melano Pro Peel (with the peeling masque & removal right after)

Day 3 of Melano Pro Peel

Week 2-4

After the initial peeling, that’s when the results started to show each day. In the 2nd and 3rd week, I noticed the tone looked more even & each pigmentation spot was fading.

Day 10 of Melano Pro Peel

During week 3, I noticed my texture was super soft (Continuous Resurfacing Cream is like a mini peel that slowly eats away pigmented dead skin cells) & skin felt & looked firmer. An added bonus: my pores & blackheads appeared smaller to none!

Currently on Week 4 & I can’t wait to share more of the results at the end of Week 6!

The Takeaway

Melano Pro’s peeling system lifts hyperpigmentation spots to fade & control existing hyperpigmentation. Acetyl-hexapeptide 1 also targets the production of new pigmentation by decreasing the size & number of melanosomes (the working cellular organelles that give our skin pigment) & reducing the transfer of melanin. It can even be performed on melasma skin tendency as the inflammatory response during a typical peel is controlled.

After the majority of pigmentation is faded, regular in-spa treatments & homecare is designed to manage & keep your pigmentation controlled!

A series of 2 treatments every 6 months is recommended for optimal results.
